The end will come.
Hopefully not today
Because I have laundry to do,
And bills to pay,
And things to fix,
And I’m pretty sure I left the coffee pot on the burner.
Shiiiiiit.
But when the end does come,
I want to be able to say,
I appreciated every moment. I savored every bite. I relished every breath.
But I’d be lying.
I have squandered many precious moments.
Too preoccupied. Too busy. Too distracted.
However, I can’t say I didn’t try my best.
At least I’m aware of all this squandering.
Mindful breath in. Mindful breath out. Ahh…
I’m pretty good at being present when I try.
The problem is I don’t always want to be here, in this body, in a world I never agreed to.
But I guess that’s the lesson—learning to let it all in, be okay with it, and maybe even love it, because none of it will last.
The hellos and goodbyes. Kisses and hugs. Drop-offs and pick-ups.
Atoms bumping into atoms. Humans bumping into humans—everyone looking for cotravelers on this cosmic journey.
It’s a delightful thing when, in all this bumping about, something sticks.
A few precious moments of moving as a molecule, a couple, a family.
These are the real joys of evolution: molecular monogamy
If the mundane is magical, what is the extraordinary?
If each day is a gift, what becomes of the ‘special’ days?
If each interaction of consciousness, energy, and matter sparks something mysterious into the universe, what the hell was the Big Bang?
The love I feel cannot be mine.
It is simply too big. It won’t fit.
Maybe that’s the secret?
Stop asking for birthday gifts and start living with a bigger heart.
A heart big enough to hold all that love.
A heart that isn’t just mine.
Hearts bumping into hearts, flying through space as bodies on journeys, looking for company.
This makes me smile :)
