What Is Burning In My Heart?
I wrote this poem April 2023—funny how little changes.
Ablaze—tell me, where do I start?
Finding the whole, of which I am a part.
How do I become a part of the solution?
Massacres. Police violence. Climate pollution.
(White) People profit from BIPOC destitution.
What political structures need dissolution?
A new generation to amend the constitution?
The power to convene and collectively heal,
Expressed through our music, the pain that we feel.
Overcoming this burden is a community ordeal.
If you're willing to listen, please hear our appeal.
A vision, a collective, a brand new ideal,
Of a just society that power and money can't steal.
This is the fire burning in my heart.
Ablaze, ablaze—now we must start.
